The Alimah Program is principally designed for students who wish to study the Islamic sciences in-depth, attain reading fluency in classical Arabic, and are motivated to commit about 9 hours per week.
The program covers the traditional curriculum of the ‘Alimah course’, and provides a firm and broad basis in all of the main disciplines of classical Islamic scholarship:
Arabic language and its various sciences, Commentary of the entire Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic Law (Fiqh), Principles of Legal Methodology (Usul al-Fiqh), Beliefs (Aqeedah), Seerah, Shamail, Contemporary Issues, and Islamic Spirituality.
Students will be moved slowly to Arabic reading fluency so that they can study the different disciplines in the language of the scholars. This will typically involve covering various classical Arabic manuals in each Islamic discipline, thereby giving students a taste of the rich academic tradition.
At Maryam Institute, the goal of education is to educate the heart by means of ta?l?m (Islamic knowledge), tazkiya (purification of the soul) and tarbiya (Islamic moral training). This heart should get illuminated with the Sunnah feelings of ikhlas (purity), taqwa (God consciousness) and ihsan (excellence in worship), in order for an individual to qualify as an Alimah. These can only be obtained through live interaction and by keeping company of the senior scholars and Shuyukh of our Ummah. As the program progresses, we will keep encouraging students to develop their spirituality while identifying opportunities for them to do so.

FAQs
Yes, Attendance is regularly marked for the Alimah Program. In order to qualify for the Degree at the end of the program, students need to maintain at least 80% attendance (either by attending live classes or recorded lessons). Students are not penalized for ONLY listening to recordings.
Yes. Those students who wish to receive a degree at the end of the program need to appear for Annual Exams.
Recordings are available for all classes and students are not penalized for ONLY listening to recordings.
The only requirement for students wanting to enroll in the Urdu Alimah program is that they must be able to read Arabic script and write it (not necessarily fluently). Students are not expected to understand Arabic script, and slow readers are definitely welcome. Students must also be able to understand and converse in simple Urdu. Students must be comfortable using a computer and headset to listen to classes and submit their assignments.
No. We only allow listeners in the Fundamentals and Quran Programs at Maryam Institute.
Yes. The Urdu Alimah Program is for students who can converse and read simple Urdu. Students in Pakistan especially are encouraged to enroll for the Urdu Alimah Program.
The English Alimah Program is principally for those students whose primary language is English and they would like the medium of instruction to be English. The Urdu Alimah Program is for students who can converse in simple Urdu. Students in Pakistan are encouraged to enroll for the Urdu Alimah Program.
All students who understand, and are able to write in, simple Urdu.
There is no fee. All courses offered by Maryam Institute are free of charge.
What if I have to miss classes during the year because of my University exams or family engagements?
This course has been designed to cater to working women, students and housewives alike, so we do understand that there may be occasions when you may not be able to attend class for genuine reasons. In such scenarios, we provide recordings so that students may catch up with the classes they have missed.

Hadith classes are soo perfect alhamdulillah. Aapa gives us practical examples regarding the interpretation of hadith- like istighfar, staying away from unnecessary activities, fulfilling the responsibilities of daily life etc. I had personally never been exposed to hadith in this manner.
Sister Sobia is an amazing teacher. She explains the verses in much detail. She also includes hadith when explaining verses that are relevant, then she discusses how the verses could be drawn into our own lives and what lesson we can learn from verses that are pertinent in this day and age. I have Alhamdulilah learned a lot in the short time I have been with Maryam Institute.
