Course Overview
This four-week course is designed to introduce students to the foundational principles of Tajweed, with a special focus on correct pronunciation and articulation. Covering the essential rules of recitation, students will learn how to pronounce each letter from its proper point of origin, understand key characteristics of the Arabic sounds, and apply basic Tajweed rules in a practical and engaging way. Whether you’re starting your journey or revisiting the basics, this course aims to build clarity, confidence, and beauty in your recitation of the Qur’an.
Course Outline
Week 1: Foundations of Tajweed
- What is Tajweed and why it matters
- Introduction to correct pronunciation
- Overview of the Arabic letters and articulation points
Week 2: Makharij & Letter Characteristics
- In-depth study of letter articulation (from the throat, tongue, lips, nose)
- Understanding heavy and light letters
- Recognizing and applying basic letter characteristics
Week 3: Core Tajweed Rules
- Rules of Noon Saakin and Tanween
- Rules of Meem Saakin
- Qalqalah and rules of the letter Raa
Week 4: Application & Recitation Practice
- Rules of Madd
- Guided recitation with feedback
- Final revision and pronunciation improvement
Learning Outcomes:
- With practice one should be able to pronounce Arabic letters from their correct articulation points
- Identify & apply the basic rules of Tajweed when reciting the Qur’an
- Improve your clarity, and confidence in Qur’anic recitation
Instructor Profile
Alimah Maria Khan has studied School Management and Islamic Counseling in the UAE and is a certified coach for Neuro Linguistic Programming. She completed her Alimiyya Degree from Maryam Institute and has been involved in teaching Qur’an and Arabic for over 13 years in the UAE and Canada. She has ijazah to teach from two different teachers in Sharjah, with a sanad for matan Al Jazariyyah in tajweed and a sanad for matan Al Ajrumiyyah in Arabic Grammar. She is a core member of the administrative team at Maryam Institute and teaches advanced fiqh and hadith classes. Sincere in her efforts, Alimah Maria uses her background and extensive experience to truly benefit her students. She currently resides in the UAE with her family.
